Carnegie Hall Rhythm Explorer
Improved the quality of a web-based rhythm game in close collaboration with Carnegie Hall.
Carnegie Hall Rhythm Explorer is a web-based rhythm game designed by FableVision Studios for the Carnegie Hall Kids website. An extension of the Musical Explorers program, Rhythm Explorer allows children K-2 to play along with musicians from all over the world, learning basic music terms and developing an appreciation for the diverse musical styles found on planet Earth. The game features enticing visuals and a robust tutorial system, helping kids understand the sounds of different instruments and the rhythm mechanics.
On this project, I…
Studied StepMania, an open source rhythm tool, and taught stakeholders how to use it. This empowered the team at Carnegie Hall to develop StepMania “charts” for the game themselves, streamlining the production process.
Carefully quality-checked the game, identifying potential audiovisual improvements and communicating them to UX, art, and programming team members for implementation.
Assisted in directing the voice actor, breaking down the game’s script and helping him better understand his lines.
Contributed to creative discussions about the narrative framework, visual aesthetic, mechanics, and charming main character: Rhythmo the Metrognome!
