GDC 2019 Narrative Summit Poster

Broke down the narrative strategy of Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games in a contest-winning essay and poster.

The GDC Student Narrative Analysis Competition is a yearly contest in which applicants create detailed analyses of the narrative elements of a game for the chance to present their analyses in poster form to GDC attendees. I was one of 22 gold award winners out of contestants from across the U.S. (gold being the second-highest award category next to platinum) for my story analysis of Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games. In my analysis, I discuss how the story of Marvel's Spider-Man finds its heart by emphasizing the humanity of its protagonist and his dedication to helping other people through both compelling writing and effective narrative design.

For my analysis, I...

  • Played and researched Marvel's Spider-Man extensively to get a sense of its narrative strengths and weaknesses

  • Wrote an essay that clearly communicated my thoughts on the game's narrative elements

  • Created a poster that visually communicated my ideas, and verbally presented my poster to attendees of GDC 2019

  • Was complimented for the poster by the creative director of Marvel's Spider-Man and an Insomniac Games writer when we spoke at the conference
